Introducing Three New High-End Patek Philippe Watches For The Tokyo Grand Exhibition

On the occasion of the 6th Grand Exhibition, Patek Philippe presents several gorgeous new watches.

The Patek Philippe Grand Exhibition is hosted for the sixth time this year and opened its doors this weekend in Tokyo, Japan today. Running until June 25th, the Maison invites you to engulf yourself in the world of Patek Philippe, with ten themed areas showcasing the history and craftsmanship in its watchmaking. One of the areas brings together 50 unique pieces inspired by Japanese culture. Along with hosting the Grand Exhibition itself, Patek Philippe also introduced a set of stunning new high-end watches, being the Quadruple Complication 5308P-010, the World Time Minute Repeater 5331R-014 and the World Time 5330G-010.

Patek Philippe Quadruple Complication 5308P-010

Several complications have always been significant to Patek, including the Perpetual Calendar and the Chronograph. Based on the 5208T for Only Watch 2017, this new Patek Philippe Quadruple Complication 5308P-010 fuses a perpetual calendar, a minute repeater and a monopusher chronograph. The added complexity transforming it from a Triple Complication (the aforementioned 5208) to this new Quadruple Complication is the fact the monopusher chronograph is now a Rattrapante or split-seconds. It makes for a truly complex piece and the flagship model of the Tokyo 2023 edition collection.

All is set in a 42mm by 17.71mm polished platinum case, with a sapphire crystal on top and an interchangeable solid or sapphire crystal caseback. Spread around the outside of the case are the pushers for the chronograph (start, stop, reset at 2′ with split-seconds at 4′) and correctors for the QP indications. The multitude of functions is displayed on a rose-gilt-coloured opaline dial over white gold. All hands and indices, and the frames for the calendar displays in the top half, are made of white gold and finished to a charcoal grey colour. The subdials for the chronograph have a white outer ring, and the small seconds subdial shows the moon phase in the bottom half.

The display caseback, if installed, reveals the complex Calibre R CHR 27 PS QI automatic movement, wound by a half-sized rotor. This side also shows you the governor and the hammer-and-gongs system for the minute repeater complication, finished with the Patek Philippe logo. Everything is finished to Patek Philippe Seal standards, of course. The watch comes on an alligator leather strap with a platinum fold-over clasp. It is limited to just 15 pieces, all strictly available through retailers and boutiques in Japan. The price is to be confirmed.

Patek Philippe World Time Minute Repeater 5331R-014

Second in line is not so much a technical evolution of an existing Patek, but rather an aesthetical one. It’s one of two new World Time watches presented by Patek for the Japanese market, in coherence with the Grand Exhibition in Tokyo. This one uses another pillar complication in Patek’s arsenal, the world timer, combined with a minute repeater mechanism. Representing the city of Tokyo, and more specifically the Chuo district in the heart of the city, it features a gorgeous polychrome decoration in Grand Feu Cloisonné enamel. This is surrounded by a two-tone rose gold 24-hour disc and a silvery-opaline city ring. Time is indicated with rose gold hour and minute hands. On the left side of the 40.2mm by 11.49mm rose gold case, a slider activates the minute repeater.

Speaking of which, the minute repeater is what sets it apart from several other Patek Philippe World Time watches. The striking complication is incorporated into the Calibre 27 HU, made in-house of course and finished to the haute horlogerie standards of the Patek Philippe Seal. The movement is constructed with 452 components, and driven by a 22k gold micro-rotor with a guilloche decoration. Again limited to just 15 pieces, this one is worn on a chocolate brown alligator leather strap with an 18k rose gold fold-over clasp. It is available in Japan only, through Patek Philippe retailers and boutiques, for a price that’s to be confirmed.

Quick Facts – 40.2mm x 11.49mm – 18k rose gold case with Clous de Paris motif and hollow lugs – sapphire crystal front & back – humidity and dust protected only – dial with silvery opaline city ring, rose gold 24h disc, and Grand Feu Cloissoné decoration in the centre – rose gold hour & minute hands – Calibre 27 HU, in-house automatic – 452 components – 21,600vph – 43h to 48h power reserve – 18k gold micro-rotor – hours, minutes, minute repeater with local time strike, world time with day/night indication – Patek Philippe Seal – alligator leather strap with 18k rose gold fold-over strap – limited edition of 15 pieces – available at Patek Philippe retailers and boutiques in Japan – price to be confirmed

Patek Philippe World Time 5330G-010

Patek Philippe releases another World Time watch in honour of Tokyo and the Grand Exhibition, albeit a bit less complex than the 5331R we’ve just shown you. However, thanks to the inclusion of a pointer date mechanism that works in sync with the local time display, this one is just as noteworthy. It marks a premier combination of complications for Patek Philippe, set in a 40mm wide and 11.57mm tall white gold case. This is finished with a sapphire crystal on both the front and back of the case, with the rear crystal having the Grand Exhibition event’s emblem printed on it, just as the other two have.

The plum purple tone of the dial, the official colour of the 2023 Grand Exhibition, sets it apart even further and is finished with a guilloché decoration in the centre. On the outside of that, there’s the familiar two-tone 24h disc that now matches the colour of the dial. Then there’s the plum purple city disc, and on the outer edge the new angled ring for the date which is indicated by a central mineral crystal hand with a red varnished bar. The time is shown by white gold hour and minute hands only. The pusher at 10′ lets you easily adjust the local time in one-hour increments, synchronizing with the date when you cross midnight. This works both ways too, which makes it very practical.

Inside, the Calibre 240 HU C is an evolution of the Calibre 240 HU found in the regular Patek Philippe World Time collection. It comes with a newly developed and patented differential for the date complication, which uses 70 components in total. Two concentric gear trains manage the local-time date, which work in unison to keep the date hand stationary or move it forward or backwards in one position. Complex, yet very easy to use. This too is worn on an alligator leather strap, finished in black with plum-coloured stitching and a fold-over clasp in 18k white gold. Limited to 300 pieces, it is exclusively available through Patek Philippe retailers and boutiques in Japan. The price is to be confirmed.

Quick Facts – 40mm x 11.57mm – 18k white gold case, polished – sapphire crystal front & back – pusher at 10′ to adjust local time – 30m water-resistant – plum purple dial with guilloché centre – two-tone 24h disc – plum purple city ring – plum purple angled date ring – central white gold hour, minute and pointer date hand – Calibre 240 HU C, in-house automatic – 306 components – 21,600vph – 38h to 48h power reserve – 18k gold micro-rotor – hours, minutes, world time with day/night indication, synchronized date – Patek Philippe Seal – alligator leather strap with 18k white gold fold-over strap – limited edition of 300 pieces – available at Patek Philippe retailers and boutiques in Japan – price to be confirmed

  1. What half-sized rotor? It’s called a micro-rotor. The size of a micro-rotor is about 1/3 to 1/4 of that of a central rotor.
