Carl F. Bucherer Presents The Elegant Heritage Chronometer Celebration

Stylish from head to toe, this is how CFB celebrates 135 years of watchmaking.

| By Robin Nooy | 2 min read |

It seems a year of celebration for plenty of brands in the watchmaking industry, Carl F. Bucherer included. Celebrating its 135th anniversary, this family-owned watchmaking company takes a step back in time and introduces an elegant interpretation of designs of the 1960s, in both stainless steel and gold. From what was a pivotal period of international growth for the brand, a classic time-and-date model inspires what is called the Carl F. Bucherer Heritage Chronometer Celebration.

The elegantly shaped case comes in either stainless steel or 18k rose gold and measures a compact 39mm in diameter and 8.45mm in height. Both are fully polished by the looks of it and finished with a sapphire crystal on top and a solid caseback around the back. This is decorated with the Bucherer family crest and details about each specific reference. You wouldn’t want to get too adventurous with both watches given the 30m water resistance, but it can take a little splash if needed.

Both case materials are available with a silver dial, and then there’s a black dial exclusively for the stainless steel one, and a very 1960s gradient brown dial exclusively for the gold variant. The finishing of the dials is exactly the same, apart from the differences in the rhodium-plated versus gold-plated hands and indices. The indices are filled with black lacquer and Super-LumiNova, as are the hands. The central seconds hand has a red triangular tip. At three, a window reveals the date disc in white with black digits.

The movement that resides under the solid caseback is the Calibre CFB 1965, which is based on the reliable Sellita SW300 automatic movement. And while CFB is known for its peripheral rotor technology, using outsourced movement is perfectly fine of course, as it keeps the watches serviceable by most watchmakers. The movement runs at a rate of 28,800vph and has a running time of 42 hours.

The new Carl F. Bucherer Heritage Chronometer Celebration comes on a steel or 18k gold mesh bracelet. All watches are limited editions of 188 pieces in steel, retailing for EUR 5,900, and 88 pieces in gold retailing for EUR 19,900.

  1. It’s beautiful, but I’m done with watches without a proper amount of complications. It’s 2023, not 1923. If you can’t design watches that have more complications and are still elegant then you’re just not trying hard enough or don’t have the right designers.
